A Month of Gratitude is Coming to an End

Posted on 29th November 2010 by Theresa Enspir8ion in Gratitude

I’ve spent the last month focused on gratitude.  Everyday I’d write 100 things I was grateful for, I’d meditate on Gratitude and as I’d drift to sleep, I’d count my gratitudes.  What a peace I feel within my soul.  No matter if I was having a good day or a bad day, I could always find a ton of things to be grateful for.

So even though my focus will change to something new next month, I still plan on devoting a large chunk each day to Gratitude.  It brings me Joy.  Hey maybe next month I’ll focus on Joy!!!

Happy End of November!

Climb down the Gratitude Ladder

Posted on 15th November 2010 by Theresa Enspir8ion in Gratitude

The Gratitude Ladder is what I call one gratitude leading to another gratitude.  In some cases, you may be surprised where your gratitude ladder takes you!

I use this technique when I’m having a bad day and can only think of a few things to be thankful for.  When you start to breakdown how those few things came into your life, you end up having 1000’s of things to be grateful for!

Here are a few examples

Simple Ladder:

Be grateful you read a good book.

Be Grateful you can read:

Be Grateful for the person who taught you to read

Be Grateful you know the alphabet

Be Grateful for the person who taught you the ABC’s

Infinity Ladder:

Be grateful you read a good book.

Be Grateful for the Person who wrote the book

Be Grateful for the publisher who published the book

Be Grateful for the letter carrier who brought the manuscript to the publisher

Be Grateful for the paper the manuscript was typed on.

Be Grateful for the tree that became that paper.

Be Grateful for the Bookstore who sold the book.

Be Grateful for the money you have to buy the book

Be Grateful for the job you have, and the paycheck you receive

Be Grateful for the products/services you sell

Be Grateful for the customers who support your employer.

Be Grateful for the jobs your customers have.

Be grateful for the car you have to drive to the bookstore

Be grateful for the gas you have in the car

Be grateful for the people who made it possible for you to have access to gasoline

Be grateful for the fossils that became fuel

Be grateful for the living beings that became fossils.

Don’t just climb down your ladder to see how long you can make it, stop on each rung and truly be grateful and see how meaningful you can make your ladder.

Happy climbing!

Peace, Love, Joy and Harmony!

Gratitude – A Cure for the Blahs!

Posted on 13th November 2010 by Theresa Enspir8ion in Gratitude

I have not been feeling well for days.  I’ve had a sore throat, killer headache, no energy and in a really bad mood.  I’ve been so frustrated.  Just when I think I’m getting better, another sore throat shows up or the headache comes back 10 times worse.  It really has been annoying.

This month I’m focusing everyday on gratitude and as the month was progressing, I was finding it harder and harder to be grateful (I know, I know, I was having a pity party).  I decided I needed to do something drastic to turn my mood around.  So for the last 3 days, the first thing I did in the morning was list 100 things I am grateful for.  It ranged from “my family” to the “color green”!  It’s has definitely made the days easier to get through.  I was still feeling icky but I was ok with that.  But this morning I got a little surprise. I woke up feeling Great!  Not ok, not fine, but GREAT!

Now I don’t know if being grateful for so many things in my life made me feel better but I think it helped move that gray cloud that was over me move away and allow some sunshine in and for that I am truly grateful.

Everyday my Family Gratitude Grows!

Today was planned for a few weeks, a girl’s day out of shopping, eating and more shopping!  Not really a spiritually lifting day, just a day of fun.

What a great day it turned out to be!  We spent a few hours in the car, no radio, just conversation about anything and everything. Then we shopped for a few hours and met up for lunch.  The food was great; the conversation was great (again).  It was a perfect rejuvenating day.

I’ve always been grateful for my family, but as I get older and I realize that not everyone is so fortunate to have “friends” as family members, my gratitude grows more and more for them.  Thank You Mom, Thank You Sister, Thank You Cousins and Thank You Universe for this amazing family I’m apart of!

What “Gratitude” Does for Me

1) Reminds me life is greater than my problems.

No matter how bad my day, when I remember to be grateful for nature, I’m immediately reminded that I’m a part of something huge!

2) Quickly changes my attitude

As soon as I start my “Gratitudes” my attitude immediately lightens and brightens. How can I feel down when I have my beautiful niece, my super fun car or even running water to be grateful for!

3) It makes “Good” just appear!

When I’m focused on gratitude, more and more things that I love seem to magically appear in my life!

4) Brings me peace

When I have gratitude at the forefront of my life, I feel very peaceful. Even if I have a lot on my plate at the time, there is peace in knowing that I truly enjoy the blessings in my life.

5) Inspires Me

My gratitude makes me more charitable. The more I realize how grateful I am, not only for the amazing things in my life, but for the little things too, the more I want to give to others.

Gratitude – There’s an App for that!

I was searching the Internet for Gratitude and came across this app!

Happy Tapper Web Grab http://happytapper.com/gratitude-journal/

I have a “smartphone”, but I haven’t become one of those people who use their phone for everything.  But since I know a lot of people who do, I figured I’d share this find.

Have you tried it?  Let me know your thoughts!

Feeling Optimistic!

Day 28 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  OPTIMISTIC

When I started on this new life path I’m on, I discovered that I had conditioned myself to be negative. When I realized how negative my thoughts were, I got very depressed and thought “How can I ever break this cycle?”.  So I just started small and focused more on gratitude.   I am happy to report that 3 years later, I am a more positive person, more compassionate and kind.  I still have negative tendencies but I do see the positive more readily now.

Every few hours today I would stop what I was doing and take a mental check to see if I was optimistic about what I was doing.  If I wasn’t then I put it aside and moved on to another project.  I only had to put 1 thing aside today.  While working on my new task, I tried to think of positive things about the project I put to the side.  Still, I wasn’t feeling it.  Then it hit me…I don’t have to do that project!  I delegated it to my assistant and moved forward optimistically through my day.  When you focus on the positive, the negative finds it’s way out of your life.  Isn’t that amazing!

Happy for No Reason!

Day 18 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  HAPPY

How ironic that I get the word “Happy” on a Monday.  My last few Monday’s haven’t gone so smoothly so I just found it funny!

I really didn’t know happiness until a few years ago.  What is amazing about that is nothing changed in my life except for that I began to be thankful for everything.  I made a conscious decision to find the good in everything going on around me. I can remember walking down the hall at work and the thought crossed my mind that “I’m Happy” and it nearly knocked me out of my shoes.

Now I have had “happy” moments in my life but they were always based on something external, like a vacation or new clothes.  But that day I was walking down the hall, I was happy for no reason!  It was an amazing feeling!

I’m sitting here right now and I’m happy again for no reason!  This happens a lot now.  It’s not a daily occurrence by any means but it happens a few times a week.  I truly believe that being grateful for simple things like clean water and the fall leaves turned my life around.  I found it doesn’t take much to make me happy.  I still give my happiness away to rude people or stressful situations but when I return to gratitude my happiness returns.

An Attitude of Gratitude

Day 17 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  GRATITUDE

My life changed a few years ago when I started to feel grateful for what I had, rather than focus on what I lack.  So I love this word!   I am grateful for this word!

Today I woke up with a migraine!  Ugh!  I don’t usually get Migraines anymore so it was kind of a surprise.  Am I grateful for the Migraine, no, but I’m grateful for several other things:

1)  I’m grateful it happened on the weekend

2)  I’m grateful I didn’t have major plans for the day.

3)  I’m grateful I had food in the house

4)  I’m grateful it went away by mid-day

5)  I’m grateful I didn’t let it stress me out.

6)  I’m grateful for having a weeks worth of T.V. shows saved on the DVR

I actually enjoyed the day even with a migraine.  I let my body rest and then this afternoon I was able to work on a few projects.

When you approach the day with Gratitude, you can handle anything life throws at you!

Beauty in Gratitude

Do you notice your surroundings; I mean really notice what is going around you?

If you live your life in gratitude, you will!

ButterflyFor the majority of my life I walked around oblivious to what was happening around me.  I didn’t look at clouds, flowers or even people walking by. But when I started to change the way I thought about life and started being grateful for what I had, the world around me became beautiful!  The annoying Geese who pooped all over the sidewalk at work, became gorgeous!  Seeing the sunrise on a weekday morning was such a blessing and now I see butterflies all the time.

These things were always around me but I’m finally in a place where I can appreciate them for just “being”.  When the world around me starts to become invisible or worse “ugly”, it’s the best indicator that I’m not aligned with a grateful energy and I need to change my thoughts!   As soon as I do, the beauty of the world is again in my scope.

My favorite beautiful moment came right in the beginning of my life transformation.  I was walking from my car into work and a deer came from nowhere and ran right in front of me.  I could have reached out and touched him.  Where I live, you see deer all the time, but they always runaway when they see you.  To have one run in my direction and have such a peaceful energy about him, it was beautiful.  Now if this had happened to my old-self, this story would have been about “The Day a Deer Tried to Kill Me”. But now that I am grateful for the simplest things I can enjoy and see the beauty in everything!  It’s a great way to live!

Peace, Love, Joy and Harmony!
